Learn navigational skills & practice them on-water, all in the same day
Â
This full-day class combines essential navigation skills for paddlers and navigating on-water in real scenarios.
In our classroom, you’ll learn how to read nautical charts, use a compass, understand the difference between true and magnetic north, how to plot a course, measure distance, and factor in tides and current to create a float plan for any trip you might be planning. The art of navigation is explained in understandable segments.
The second part of this course is about applying the principles of navigation learned in the classroom to real on-water situations.
You’ll plot a course on land and then follow that course on the water to see how accurate your calculations turned out. We will also take some bearings while on the water and show you how to find your location using a compass and a nautical chart. Applying all these new skills, we’ll have you adjust your planned course on the fly and learn some techniques to make it easier.
